Our Story is Honest.
For several years, Mike Miller and family were brainstorming about opening an all-natural fruit and vegetable farm. In the spring of 2006 they decided to jump in and start planting. Their vision has now become "Mike's Berries, Vegetables & More!" But there is more to their vision than just growing and selling produce.
Says Mike's son Doug, "We intend to spend the first few seasons taking the pulse of the community to find out what people are looking for. Our ultimate vision is that we want to go beyond the idea of being a vegetable farm or a strawberry patch. We want to someday become an attraction, a diversion from the hustle and bustle of everyday life." Strawberries have been a part of the Miller family for generations. Mike's father had a strawberry patch in Elyria and his grandchildren would help him pick. Mike, retired, hopes to build a legacy that could remain in the family for years. |
4 Things we don't do1. We don't spray herbicides; weeds are controlled by hand & machine.
2. We don't spray pesticides; we've experimented with neem oil, but the results were mixed. So, we take care of the bugs by hand too. 3. We don't use petrofertilizers; we supplement our soil with organic nutrients from Espoma. 4. We don't use "city water"; we have our own chemical-free pond replenished from the sky. Our irrigation is free of chlorine and the other chemicals that can be found in processed tap water. |
