At Mike's we pride ourselves on providing all-natural produce. But maybe you're asking, is Mike's organic?
Well, we don't have official organic certification. Why not? To be blunt, we feel that certification is too costly. Taking on that cost would raise our prices. If we raise our prices, there goes AFFORDABLE all-natural berries and vegetables out the window.
We call ourselves ALL-NATURAL. With that you get a guarantee of 4 things we don't do:
1. We don't spray herbicides; weeds are controlled by hand & machine... so, you're going to have an all natural weed experience.
2. We don't spray pesticides; we've experimented with neem oil, but the results were mixed. We take care of the bugs by hand... so, you're going to get an all natural bug experience too.
3. We don't use petrofertilizers; we supplement our soil with organic nutrients from Espoma.
4. We don't use "city water"; we have our own chemical-free pond replenished from the sky. It's full of algae and nutrients, but free of chlorine and the other chemicals that can be found in processed tap water.
We're really good at not doing those things, we've been free from the yoke of petrochemical farming practices for 20 years (the Fed requires only 3 years for certification). But you don't have to take our word for it, the proof in the product. Bite into one of our berries, or peppers, or potatoes and you'll taste the truth.
